• The nieces and nephews are volunteering as portrait subjects. The three season porch has a portable heater and is now ‘the studio’. (I rearranged a bit-the kitties are miffed!)

My first ‘client’ was Tom. I asked that he bring a few props- hats, etc. He brought his departed grandpa’s hat…really like those shots. We also took some of the now infamous tattoo. (family dust-up…)

  • I am watching Episode 2 of the Swedish series, Mankells-Wallander. This is a bit of a problem because I am also writing- and editing photographs- and I have to keep glancing up at the screen to read captions. I am starting to pick up a few words (love Swedish movies…) but the occasional ‘yes’ and ‘thank you’ will not help me piece together the storyline…

I digress. The whole work from home/ freelance thing is very isolating. That is not to say I do not put myself out there. I am developing projects. Today I spent more time walking on W7th, one of the main streets running to and from downtown St. Paul. I stopped by Rat’s Nest Salon, W7th Tattoos, and The Beer Dabbler.

As luck would have it, Katie, who often models, was at the tattoo shop waiting for her boyfriend. Because I like to think of all of you as my co-workers, I will share a few shots from the day. As I may have mentioned, I am working on a photography project- Where I Live.

Just writing a bit about the day is useful- thank you bloggers! Hi Bowie!

  • What happens when an ordinary tree transforms? As I continue to explore, I look at photos I may have dismissed and wonder what they would look like with more cropping, visualizing, editing. Not for the purist I suppose…but an interesting exercise!

I also looked at a couple of shots that were complete mistakes- the camera was still set on timer and just went off- snapping random shots as I attempted to regain control. The following is one I saved, edited a bit, and entitled ‘Haiku’.

  • Dylan succeeded in garnering 100 votes in the MN Public TV contest, Capture Minnesota! Yeah- a prize for a photo!

    Thank you to WordPress supporters!

  • I suppose my primary resolve is to continue to work at improving my photography- wherever that takes me.

  • Ah! The wonder of antibiotics and love… Bagheera is his usual self this morning after enjoying a sleeping bag slumber party in the living room last night. The medicine is working and he has managed to swipe ornaments and insert himself into the picture framing process- and it is barely 11 a.m. here!

    We are SO happy!!

  • Bagheera is spending the afternoon at the day hospital. It seems he may have Feline Idiopathic Cystitis…

Certainly when the Vet palpated his bladder my poor baby cried out in a way I have never heard. Of course, I then shed a few tears and felt awful. Happily, he was given some pain medicine right away and will receive appropriate medication as soon as we are certain of the diagnosis. He will be home late tonight, forever more on a special diet. No more dry food. There will be jubilation in the household! Canned cat food! What luxury! How sublime! Dylan is already celebrating, seemingly unphased by his siblings absence..

I, on the other hand, cannot wait to go collect my sweet Bagheera.

  • Bagheera is not feeling well, so we will be making a trip to the vet…

This is his least favorite outing, but I hope it will be a simple visit (for both of us). I wish our felines could tell us, “it hurts here”, and point a paw…

    The Kazoo Band, Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is the time when everyone gathers at Grandma’s house.

My partner and I are the instigators of the annual ‘gag gift’- this year, funny glasses and kazoos. I thought this grouping of nieces looked especially ‘cool’!

  • Although they surprise me every day..photos really would not count for the challenge this time. So I will simply post the latest of the darlings enjoying the porch with heat (yeah human mom!!)

Bagheera is pleased to have a starring role..
