As our thoughts and prayers are with London and the UK- and all places touched by violence- we also turn to the littlest lives being lived right next door. Sadly, the most fragile kitten died shortly after being brought from another foster setting this past weekend. The remaining five are jolly and rambunctious; adored and lovingly cared for by their foster parents.

Kittens are definitely on my radar as my neighbors are fostering six! At the moment I can think of nothing more evanescent than a tiny kitten needing to be bottle fed one day and the next attempting to climb a cat sized skyscraper/ scratching post…

The kittens next door are thriving! Ruby, the only girl of the litter is already spoken for and had a photo shoot with her adoptive mother today, but won’t go home with her for awhile yet:

The most challenging event happened Friday evening when two remaining kittens of the clan of seven were dropped off next door. They are in rougher shape, but quickly coming around thanks to the tender care being given them by their foster parents. Bless them!

My neighbor is once again fostering kittens. A litter of seven orange babies was orphaned and needing two foster placements to nurture them. Yesterday, four little guys arrived next door and begin their journey to good homes. They are approximately two to three weeks old and will be ready for their “furrever” homes in August.

Lilydale Regional Park is a forested floodplain along the Mississippi and a perfect spot for a Sunday ramble.
‘Gator’ Fungus!

The thaw and freeze cycles have created interesting ice formations along the banks of the Mississippi River in St Paul. I imagined this one to be a dragon atop his frozen island. The other shot I am calling Ghost Barges…

It’s that time of year when I begin to think about the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts competition. It has become quite a competitive experience, with photography a popular entry category . I have decided to focus more on experimenting and learning than the possibility of being selected to exhibit (less daunting) and am working on using the camera set to ‘manual’ in an effort to learn more about the art of photography. The cats are being very receptive models to that end!
