  • A new visitor to my blog, Rumpydog, made me realize I did not post any photos from the Pause4Paws benefit in October. This organization fund raises to support dozens of groups who rescue, treat, feed and support foster care givers! http://www.pause4pawsmn.org/success_stories/

  • Just one mile from our home is Crosby Farms Regional Park. The original 160 acre farm was active in the mid to late 1800’s and was the largest and longest running farm in the West End/Highland Park area of St. Paul, MN. Cattle, dairy cows, horses, pigs, and chickens were raised on the farm, along with crops including potatoes and apples.

Today is is a wild, virtually untouched parcel of 736 acres; the largest natural park in the Saint Paul system of parks and it is an important component in a string of parks that protects the biodiversity of the Mississippi River corridor through the Twin Cities. “The park protects…floodplain forest and adjacent steep, wooded slopes cloaked mostly in oak forest, a scattering of wetlands and small lakes (Crosby Lake and Upper Lake), and the Mississippi River shoreline. When the Mississippi River floods fish and other aquatic animals gain access to these small lakes, which act as nurseries for their offspring.”  Source material http://www.nps.gov

  • Totino Grace High School students and faculty held their annual Halloween event, Trunk or Treat, on October 26th. The students showed up mid-day on Saturday to decorate the trunks of cars and trucks in a variety of themes. From classic golf, pumpkin painting, mini-bowling, shooting hoops, to the ‘cast’ from Despicable Me and Star Trek, they provided the children and families who participated an afternoon of free fun and adventure. There was even a giant Dragon Inflatable bouncing room!

  • horizonThis is a horizon “selfie” taken atop an abandoned building in St. Paul, MN. It is meaningful to me in several ways: freedom, joy, shared experience… Perhaps most thought provoking is the infinite feel of horizon- so much possibility. Thus the smile!

  • I met a friend for breakfast at Hazel’s Northeast in Minneapolis this morning.

I have been missing out!! Greeted by co-owner Andrew and waited on by the incomparable Lindsay, we enjoyed a luscious breakfast on a busy Friday. The biscuits and gravy was sublime; eggs over-easy… done to perfection.

Enjoy a few snap shots and a snippet from Hazel’s website:

Rooted in decades old recipes and tradition, Hazel’s Northeast serves American comfort food that is simply prepared, impeccably presented, and consistently delicious. To us, classic comfort food isn’t a trend or fad—it’s a legacy. And we’re happy to share our legacy with you at Hazel’s Northeast at the corner of Johnson Street and 29th Avenue in the Audubon Park neighborhood of Northeast Minneapolis.
